Editorial Methodology
What We Research
Depending on the Article, GWI may review official developer, publisher, game, and platform information; patch or update notes; player and community discussion; storefront or community reviews; professional reporting and reviews; technical or performance coverage; and useful video or community discussion. Not every Article uses every source category.
Official Facts vs. Player Opinions
We check official and technical claims as facts. Player experiences, interpretations, and sentiment remain attributed opinion or reporting; subjective reactions are not converted into verified facts.
Platform-verified ownership, playtime, purchase status, review timing, or similar metadata may inform context, but does not independently establish the truth, independence, or representativeness of a claim.
Commercial and Incentivized Sources
Commercial or incentivized relationships affect the role and weight of evidence. Directly sponsored, commissioned, or editorially controlled content is not treated as independent opinion evidence. Ordinary review access may still provide limited context when independence is otherwise established and the relationship is recorded.
How We Identify Recurring Themes
We look for repeated signals across independent sources rather than elevating isolated comments. Reposts, copied reports, and multiple references to one underlying source are not automatically treated as independent confirmation.
Why Opinions Can Differ
Experiences may differ by platform, hardware, mode, playstyle, skill level, expectations, patch or version, solo or multiplayer conditions, and accessibility or technical conditions. We describe meaningful disagreement instead of manufacturing consensus.
Versions, Platforms, and Timing
We distinguish pre-release, launch, later-state, major-update, Early Access, platform-specific, and patch-specific conditions when relevant. A game can change after an Article is published.
Serious Issues and Exceptions
Credible high-impact issues may merit restrained coverage before they become broadly recurring. Examples include save corruption, account suspension, payment problems, security concerns, or an inability to launch or use a game.
Serious claims receive additional human verification. Where appropriate, GWI may seek existing official context or give a developer or publisher an opportunity to comment. That opportunity is not an editorial veto, and no response or a denial does not automatically erase independently supported evidence.
Serious assertions also need an appropriate public supporting source that readers can inspect. This may be a representative report or authoritative statement; it does not require publishing every underlying discussion or evidence record.
Human Review and Approval
Automation may help organize research, compare sources, and prepare drafts. Human review is mandatory, and a human must approve every Article before publication.
Images and Source Attribution
Image provenance and permission to use an image are considered separately. GWI uses imagery only when there is a valid basis, displays required public attribution, and may keep an Article text-led when usable imagery is unavailable.
Research Notes
Research Notes may summarize when research was reviewed or information verified, together with relevant platform, version, and research scope. Selected Sources are optional; our internal evidence trail and source-group counts are not a default public ledger.
We research broadly, synthesize independently, and retain auditable provenance internally for human review, corrections, and later verification. Public attribution is preserved where needed for quotations, specific official facts or figures, serious assertions, or applicable source terms. Image credits and commercial disclosures remain separate obligations.
Corrections and Updates
Factual errors may be corrected, and material public-content changes may receive a substantive modification date. Evolving game conditions do not automatically make a historical Article incorrect; GWI may publish a later check-in or update Article instead of silently rewriting the original reaction.
